For nominations for Oscar, the film must be shown in the Los Angeles county, California, the previous calendar year from January one and December 31. The awards are given six weeks after their nominations.
The awards are given in between February and March and the ceremony is televised live throughout the United States of America barring Alaska and Hawaii. The function is an elaborate extravaganza with red carpets rolled out to welcome the guests. It is an international billion viewer event, organized at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood since 2002.

The oldest winner is 76-year-old Henry Fonda for the film On Golden Post in1981 and the youngest being 29-year-old Adrien Brody for the film Pianist in 2002.
Among the Best Actress the most notable is Katherine Hepburn who won four awards in 1981. Ingrid Bergman, Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda, Julie Andrews, Jodie Foster, Julia Roberts are the other heroines who glorified the Oscar awards.
Among the Indian film personalities, Bengali Director Satyajit Ray won Oscar as Life Time Achievement Award in his death bed in 1992.
